You do not require a referral to see a Psychologist at Thriving Minds Therapy. However, should you wish to claim Medicare rebates, a valid referral and mental health care plan will be required from your GP. We are a private billing practice and do not offer bulk billing. Please contact us for a fee schedule.

You are able to see a Psychologist at Thriving Minds Therapy privately, without a referral.

If you have private health insurance, you may be able to claim a rebate depending on the level of cover you hold.

A Mental Health Care Plan can be obtained from your GP to help cover the cost of therapy. A Mental Health Care Plan enables you to access up to 10 Individual sessions per calendar year. Often your GP will provide a referral for an initial six sessions. Following the six sessions, a review will be undertaken and another four sessions may be available.

With a Mental Health Care Plan referral, you will be able to claim a rebate of up to $93.35 back from Medicare which will reduce the out-of-pocket costs.

Please note, it is your responsibility to ensure you have a valid referral. Your referral should include:

  • A signed and dated letter

  • Patient’s symptoms/diagnosis

  • Number of treatment services

  • Statement about whether the patient has a GPMHTP, shared plan, or a Psychiatrist assessment and management plan.
